Defining the American Middle Class

So who really is middle class in American society?

According to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, the overwhelming majority of the public — 90% — defined a “middle-income household” as families with total income at or below $100,000. Additionally, and as indicated by the chart below, most Americans tend to consider people in their own income brackets to be middle-income.
